Mercury in 6th House

The sixth house in a chart represents the area where we need to focus on our own efforts without paying much attention to results it will bear. Thats why this house is traditionally called as house of Service. Now what exactly service means? Though the beauty is that there can be multiple interpretations of one term, here digging deep within ourselves and bringing forth our deeply buried qualities of working selflessly or working with motto of achieving just more than personal gains will truly present this house. Now its interesting at this point to discuss some of the attributes of Mercury which  will help us to get a clear picture of how its placement here manifest and why in classical texts sixth house is said to be primarily Mercury’s favorite one.

Each planet has been associated with some color, which obviously have some deeper implications .Green is the color which is assigned to this Prince of solar system. Now green color lies in the middle of visible spectrum.

So the term to keep in mind is that Mercury’s tendency is to be in middle, i.e neutral .This can again be verified from the fact that in classical Vedic astrology ,this planet has been said to be eunuch ,again symbolizing its characteristics of being in middle or rather different from both male and female energies .Now in context of sixth house, when Mercury gets placed there ,characteristics of this planet resonates so well with the significance of this house .This planet when placed here will give one selfless approach to serve others ,and accordingly such people will be known as very helping and genuine personalities .The neutral approach of Mercury aligns so well when working without any motive of personal gains comes into play .Also these people remain highly aware of the hidden potential of human minds ,and indeed they become very active in development of their latent faculties ,i.e they get deeply involved in learning ways in which they can become more productive ,as Mercury is primarily the planet concerned with intellect ,such journey often starts with reading self help books and trying to rationalize everything that looks beyond reach of normal human norms.

Sixth house is intimately connected with the rituals. Now rituals can have multiple meanings .Rituals can be our daily routine ,what we do on daily basis which seems dull on the face. Mercury being placed here gives a tendency to bring more organization in the way things are followed in daily manual. These people put their minds in smallest of the things and look for the innovative ways in which a task can be achieved. We all wake up in morning and get ready to reach our college, office or any other workplace, people having sixth Mercury will leave their homes with all their clothes stacked properly in their cupboard, that’s how this Mercury manifest itself in this house .This also shows up in the way they eat and perceive the idea of overall well being. These people are extremely cautious of their diets and can even count the nutrition per meal that’s going inside them! This tendency makes them interested in holistic approach towards health and they often explore many branches like Yoga, aerobics, and alike to live a more meaningful and healthy life.

In their workplace they tend to put their hearts in their work, and that’s where disease part of sixth house comes into play, they tend to over exhaust themselves while at work. Relationships with peers are generally very bright. Mercury’s quest for perfection reaches peak here and indeed these people look for optimization in whatever they think ,do or offer.
